Roddy made a move to WCW’s World Championship Wrestling organization in 1996. He also appeared in the well-known “Halloween Havoc” and “Starrcade” shows featuring stars like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, and Brett Hart. Roddy then served for a short time as his WCW Commissioner. While in his tenure, he faced significant disputes over Rick Flair, Sid Vicious, and Scott Hall. After the decline of WCW, Piper found himself returning to the WWF that was renamed in 2003 as Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment. This time, he had a well-loved match against Hulk Hogan, who won the game even after being attacked by a steel pipe from Roddy.
In a highly controversial appearance on the HBO show “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel”, Piper acknowledged that he took drugs to stay in the Ring during his pro wrestling career. Piper also admitted that most professional wrestlers had done championship belts the same thing so that they could keep competing, considering the injuries they endured and the pain they experienced. The incident led to Roddy being removed by Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment. The TAW (Total Action Wrestling) group also included NWA stars, who picked Roddy in 2003, despite the controversy.
The move quickly proved to be beneficial for both Piper as well as the TAW. This was so much that Vince McMahon could not ignore Roddy’s rise in popularity and eventually returned him to the massive and growing Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment in 2005. At the time, Piper was the host of an additional “Piper’s Pit” live show at WrestleMania 21. In the same year, he was also admitted into the Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment Wrestling Hall of Fame. Piper frequently appeared on the highly watched “RAW!” ” and “SMACKDOWN” Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment television shows, which attracted his talents and excitement into the spotlight of a new generation of professional wrestling fans.
From 2003 until form 2003 to Piper continued to increase his fame with his “Piper’s Pit” shows and numerous fights and matches between Ricky Steamboat, Zac Rider, The Miz, Dolphy Ziegler and many more. Roddy experienced a few bumps the big gold belt in the road during this time, including some injuries he sustained in an auto crash in 2005 and the diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2007. He recovered from his injuries from the accident and was believed to be in an in-remission from the lymphoma by 2008 after being treated for more than one year.
When his appearances on main pro wrestling television shows decreased, Piper still appeared at numerous well-known independent pro-wrestling events, such as Wrestle Reunion and other famous veteran wrestlers like Bob Orton Jr. and Terry Funk. The renowned MMA and UFC female star Rhonda “Rowdy” Rousey (12 wins, no losses at the time of writing) have met Piper and informed her that she was an avid fan. She asked if she could wear the “Rowdy” moniker, and he gladly gave her his blessing. She has recently dedicated her match against Bethe Correia UFC 190 to Piper after learning of his death. She took the fight in just 34 seconds.
Piper’s final few years were spent being on numerous television shows like “Celebrity Wife Swap” while performing voiceovers for famous cartoons, appearing in appearances in comedy clubs, and completing several acting gigs in addition to his professional wrestling skills. Piper never disappeared from public View and even appeared in the show “Celebrity Ghost Stories”. In that Show, he confessed that he saw that ghostly figure of his fellow professional opponent Adrian Adonis in 2013. Roddy was most recently living within Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Kitty.
There aren’t any doubts, wrestlers who have a reputation, talent and impressive records, but the issue is, out of all the wrestlers that had at one point or the other claimed to be the champion who is the real heavyweight wrestler now that some champions have been crowned through various methods that are both acceptable and to the View and perception of the public?
He had four kids, three daughters and one son. Piper became a grandpa when his child Anastacia was born recently. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper passed from a heart attack on July 31st, 2015. This is a frequent cause of death for former wrestlers in the prowl. After a long time of pushing their bodies to their limits, I would guess that their hearts yokozuna death end up bursting. No matter what the cause of his passing, Piper will be missed by the thousands of fans who loved his talents and his raunchy behavior both in and out of the arena.
